RESIDENCY PARTICIPANTS ANNOUNCED

During the first edition in 2018, the String Quartet Biennale offered a Residency to two young quartets: the Canadian Quatuor Andara and the British-Dutch Behn Quartet. They became part of the Biennale buzz for a whole week: with masterclasses by world known string quartets and teachers, joining the other quartets for lunch and diner, free tickets for all concerts and free accommodation.

In 2020, the String Quartet Biennale doubles the bill and offers a Residency to four quartets with a more intensive ‘internship’ during the festival. The Residency quartets are recently announced: Nemeth Quartet from Turkey, Bresler Quartet, Affinity Quartet from Australia and Barbican Quartet from the United Kingdom.

They are offered an all-inclusive stay at the String Quartet Biennial and a weeklong stay at The Student Hotel Amsterdam City *. They participate in an intensive and tailor-made program in which they follow masterclasses (with among others Richard Ireland, Isabel Charisius, Alasdair Tait and Pavel Fischer), have free access to all concerts and events of the festival and join the meet & greet with the Grass Roots quartets together with programmers and artist managers on the Sunday afternoon.

Two of the quartets also participate in the festival program: the Affinity Quartet, together with composer Brett Dean, present a number of his string quartets in the artist-talk (28 January at 11.30 a.m.) and the Barbican Quartet dives into Dutillieux ‘Ainsi la Nuit with members of the Juilliard Quartet (January 30 at 11:30 am).

The Turkish Nemeth Quartet is one of the many young Turkish ensembles, which was founded in the wake of the Borusan Quartet and presents itself for the first time in the Netherlands.
