The Festival

The world’s biggest string quartet festival will embark on an eight-day voyage of discovery, embracing tradition and experimentation, the familiar and the unknown. We invite you to explore, share and celebrate the string quartet with us in more than 50 concerts, lectures, talks and masterclasses at the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam – from 25 January to 1 February 2020.

Start your day with an Early Beethoven (9:30), listen to personal stories about the string quartet in a Coffee Talk (10:15) and delve into the finer points of string quartet playing in a Masterclass (11:30). In the afternoon you can explore the boundaries of this art form in Extending String Quartet (14:15) and hear its finest and most significant works in Selected By (17:00). Experience the festival high points each evening: the Evening Concert (20:15) and Late Beethoven (22:30).
