“The greatest thing in life is when Utopia becomes reality. For me, that is exactly what happens at the String Quartet Biennale. For a full week, the Muziekgebouw and the area around are like a village, completely occupied by the string quartet.”
– Marc Danel / Quatuor Danel
String quartet is alive! For the second edition of the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam we have prepared a packed programme welcoming more than twenty-five string quartets from all over the world. Every two years the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam is the meeting place for string quartet players and music lovers alike. Nowhere in the world do you see and hear so many different string quartets together.

YOUNG TALENT & EDUCATION
Masterclasses, lecture-recitals and pre-concert talks form a large part of the festival program, but there is also a lot activity behind the scenes: a Residency of four international young string quartets, the Junior-Quartet-Day of the Dudok Quartet and our collaboration project ‘My First String Quartet’ with the Leerorkest.
This is the beating heart of the String Quartet Biennale. For an entire week the Muziekgebouw will be totally dedicated to the string quartet. Enjoying the venue’s generous space, spectacular architecture and fantastic acoustic you can almost literally immerse yourself in the world of the string quartet – surrounded by a breathtaking view across the IJ river.
The Muziekgebouw is about 10 minutes walking distance from Amsterdam Central Station. Tram 26, which departs from Centraal Station, stops at the Muziekgebouw’s door – or rather in front of its footbridge. A parking garage is situated under the Muziekgebouw and there is naturally also parking space for bicycles.
Feel the buzz of the festival in the Lloyd Hotel! All the musicians will sleep, drink and eat together in the hotel, located just a couple of tram stops away from the Muziekgebouw.
Day and night at the String Quartet Biennale – with a discount
The Lloyd Hotel is the perfect place to stay for festival visitors; what could be better than sleeping and breakfasting among the musicians and then hearing them on stage? For visitors of the String Quartet Biennale, the Lloyd Hotel offers a special discount during the festival.
The Student Hotel is a lively, stylish hotspot located on the Wibautstraat. Our Residency quartets are staying at this hotel for the whole week, making it our young talent headquarters.
